Semana Santa - Lago de Tota

Semana Santa, or Easter, is a popular holiday in Colombia and most people try to get out of the hectic city to enjoy the long weekend. Together with some friends we decided to go on a road trip and drive to Yopal, which is located 360 km north-east of Bogotá. It's easier and more safe to fly, but the road is so beautiful and amazing it's worth driving there. It takes around 7 hours to get there, it's more or less to drive up the mountain on one side and then down on the other side, along a very curvy road.

We made one stop on the way at Lago de Tota, which is the largest and highest lake in Colombia. Lago de Tota is known for having a beautiful white sand beach, called Playa Blanca. The sand and the beach makes you think about the caribbean coast, well, at least until you touch the water.. The water is natural but only 13 degrees celsius so not really the best place to go swimming.

My first post

I want to welcome you to my blog and start by introducing myself and my story. I am originally from Finland and I first came to Bogotá 1.5 years ago, I stayed on and off for a year until I decided to move here 6 months ago. I've had very different feelings about this city, but in the end I can only say I really really like living here. I have had to learn some things the hard way and other things have just happened by itself. It is interesting how things can happen, one day you walk around without having a clue that the very next day will change your life. That is how I ended up in Colombia. Never in my life did I plan to move to South America, I always saw it as a dream, until one day when I sat on the plane to Bogotá for the fourth time and I was thinking; some dreams do come true.
